Slug

Every time a tube is punched—for a bolt hole or a decorative notch—a small disc of waste metal is created. This is the slug. In modern sustainable manufacturing, these slugs are collected and sent back to the melt shop. The quality of the slug’s edge is also a diagnostic tool: a "clean break" on the slug indicates that the punching tools and the material hardness are in perfect alignment.
