Seamless vs Welded Steel Pipe
The debate between Seamless and Welded pipes comes down to the "seam." Seamless pipes are made by piercing a solid steel billet, resulting in a tube with no joints. Welded pipes are made by rolling a flat strip and welding the edge.
Historically, seamless was considered stronger for high-pressure oil and gas lines. However advanced High-Frequency Welding (HFW) and in-line seam annealing have made welded pipes nearly as strong as seamless for most industrial applications. Welded pipe is generally more cost-effective and offers more consistent wall thickness.
