Mult

In the jargon of the mill, a "Mult" is simply short for a "Multiple." It refers to the individual narrow coils produced by the slitting process. If a manufacturer slits a 60-inch master coil into five 12-inch strips, they have produced five "mults." Each mult is then processed individually on a tube mill. The quality of the mult is critical because any "camber" (a slight side-to-side curve in the strip) will cause the tube mill to run off-track, leading to a spiraling weld seam. High-quality mults are the foundation of "straight and true" industrial tubing.
