Coating Adhesion

Coating adhesion describes how strongly the zinc layer remains bonded to the steel surface during handling, bending, forming, or service use. Good adhesion is essential because a coating that cracks, peels, or flakes can expose steel to corrosion.

In galvanized products, adhesion depends on proper surface preparation, clean steel chemistry, bath temperature, and controlled cooling. During galvanizing, zinc reacts metallurgically with steel to create bonded alloy layers. These layers help anchor the outer zinc coating firmly to the base metal.

Adhesion is especially important for tubes used in fabrication, threading, bending, or transport. Products with strong coating adhesion maintain better durability and appearance. Manufacturers often perform bend or impact tests to confirm coating performance before shipment.
