Jigging
Jigging in the context of tube and pipe galvanizing refers to the crucial process of using specialized fixtures known as jigs or racking to securely hold and orient the pipes during the galvanizing process.
Purpose in Galvanizing
Jigging is essential for both quality control and efficiency:
- Ensuring Drainage: The jig is designed to hold the pipe at a precise angle, guaranteeing that the molten zinc completely fills the pipe and, critically, that it fully drains upon withdrawal. This prevents the formation of internal zinc pools, which waste material and create unbalanced weights.
- Facilitating Handling: It allows operators to safely immerse, manipulate, and quickly withdraw bundles of pipes without surface damage.
- Optimizing Coating: Correct positioning minimizes air pockets and ensures a uniform reaction between the steel and the zinc, promoting a consistent coating thickness across the entire surface.
