Rigid Conduit

Rigid Conduit is the heaviest and thickest-walled electrical raceway commonly used in commercial and industrial construction.

Rigid conduit is primarily made of either Rigid Metal Conduit (RMC)—which is typically galvanized steel—or Rigid Non-Metallic Conduit (RNC)—usually PVC.

  • RMC offers the highest degree of physical protection for electrical conductors, making it the preferred choice for installation in hazardous locations, areas susceptible to severe mechanical damage (like factories and parking garages), and outdoors where heavy weather exposure is a concern. The threads on RMC allow for robust, water-tight connections using threaded fittings, which ensures electrical continuity for grounding purposes.
  • RNC (PVC) is non-conductive and highly resistant to moisture, chemicals, and corrosive agents, making it ideal for underground burial or placement in corrosive environments, such as chemical processing plants.

In essence, rigid conduit serves as the fortress of a wiring system, mandatory wherever maximum protection and durability is required.
