Weld Seam Protection

Written by Superior Technologies | 2026.05.05

Weld seam protection refers to ensuring that the welded joint of a steel tube receives adequate zinc coverage during galvanizing. Since the weld area may have different surface conditions compared to the rest of the tube, it requires careful process control to avoid weak coating zones.

If the seam is poorly coated, corrosion can begin earlier at that location, reducing service life. This is particularly important in water systems, structural use, fencing, and outdoor applications where moisture exposure is common.

Good seam protection depends on clean weld surfaces, proper weld quality, controlled bath conditions, and uniform zinc flow around the tube. In high-quality production, the weld seam should receive protection comparable to the rest of the product. Reliable seam coverage increases durability and customer confidence.
