High-Speed Steel is a specialized alloy tool steel designed to maintain its hardness at high temperatures (up to 600°C). Standard carbon steel loses its "temper" and goes soft when it gets hot from friction. HSS, enriched with Tungsten, Molybdenum, and Chromium, allows cutting tools to operate at much higher speeds, drastically increasing factory throughput.
