HRPO (Hot Rolled Pickled and Oiled)

Written by Superior Technologies | 2026.02.06

HRPO is an intermediate steel product that bridges the gap between rough hot-rolled steel and expensive cold-rolled steel.

The Process: Standard hot-rolled steel has a flaky, grey surface called "scale." In HRPO, this scale is removed using acid (Pickling) and then coated with a thin layer of oil (Oiling) to prevent flash rust.

Benefit: It provides a clean, smooth surface that is easy to weld, paint, or laser cut, making it ideal for manufacturing tube machinery parts or automotive components.
