Edge Wave

Written by Superior Technologies | 2026.04.16

Edge wave is a geometric defect where the edges of the steel strip are longer than the center, causing the edges to appear wavy or buckled. This is a common issue originating from the Hot Strip Mill or improper tension during slitting. If a mult with edge wave is fed into a tube mill, it creates "peaking" at the weld box, leading to poor weld quality and inconsistent V-Angles.
