Delta Layer

Written by Superior Technologies | 2026.01.30

Definition: Delta layer is a specific iron-zinc layer that forms inside the coating during galvanizing.

  • The "Glue": It acts as a bridge between the steel and the outer zinc.

  • Properties: It is very hard and protects against scratches.

  • The Risk: If this layer grows too thick (usually due to high silicon in the steel), the coating becomes brittle and might flake off.
