An air knife is a controlled jet system used in galvanizing lines to regulate the amount of molten zinc that remains on a steel tube or strip after it leaves the zinc bath. As the hot steel exits the bath, a liquid zinc layer clings to the surface. If left unmanaged, the coating may become too thick, uneven, or wasteful. High-pressure air nozzles are placed near the moving product to blow away excess zinc before it solidifies.
